Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I am a 21 year old producer from Tucson, AZ and I love all kinds of music!
How did you come up with the name Tezzeract?
The name came from a book called a Wrinkle in Time. In the book the main characters would use tesseracts in order to travel to different worlds and dimensions. After I found out, that tesseract was a rock band, I swiftly changed the name to tezzeract. Now that I look back on it, I really hope that doesn’t cause any confusion!
How long have you been producing?
I have messed around casually in producing for a year or two, but I really started getting serious into it about 6 months ago.
What is your set up (hardware/software)?
I am using some Thx speakers and a gigantic Yamaha ez-150 that has been in my family since I was a little kid. I never would have dreamed in a million years that I would have it hooked up to a computer, making music with it. I had no clue what MIDI even meant until this year. For software I am running Fl studio 10 with a various plethora of vst plugins (mainly massive). I have been dabbling in Ableton a bit too, but for right now I am more comfortable with FL.
What got you started producing and what are your influences?
That is a very good question. Ever since I can remember, I would always hear random melodies in my head. I never had any way of writing this down until I got into computer music. I would have to say, in the beginning I was most influenced by music from video games. I love chip tunes like from gameboys and I love that crazy music Dance Dance Revolution would always blast at the arcade.
Which tune are you most proud of?
Right now I would have to say Solstice. It has gotten so much good reception and love from people. People really seem to enjoy it, and that is what it is all about.
If you were stranded on a deserted island with only an Ipod with 5 songs on it, what would they be?
Definitely five songs I have never ever heard before haha. Maybe some disco-funky stuff, and then like an inspirational 80’s song to get me moving while I am collecting coconuts for dinner.
Can you describe what the production process is like for you?
Well my radio got stolen from my car a while back, which leaves me a great opportunity to hear the music in my head. I go home, write an idea down with a very simple synth, and then go back to it and keep at it until it sounds right to me. That’s really how I operate. It just has to sound “right”. Everything is by ear. I don’t have any knowledge in music theory so that is what I do. I also frequently play around with synths until I get some crazy sounds that give me some new ideas.
If you could collab right now with anyone, who and why?
Oh man, there are so many people that I would be honored to collab with. Deadmau5, Porter robinson, Alvin risk to name a few. What I would really love is to collab with someone who has a style completely out of the ordinary; something that I have never heard or imagined before.
What is your dream gig?
Playing at Ultra Music Festival for sure.
What to you have in the making right now?
Let’s see, I have Shout which is a 115bpm electro track at the moment, I love vocal slicing ( a melodic dubstep with, you guessed it, vocal slicing), an uplifting house track, a moombah track, and a million other little projects that I am working on at the moment.
What can we expect to see from you in the coming few months?
My day job has been hectic to say the least, but I am working my hardest to release my first Ep around march.
When you’re not dropping sick baselines or making crazy bangers, what do you like to do?
When I am not working I like to watch movies, go outdoors, travel, work on my car (or anything else mechanical) , and try out different kinds of restaurants. I love trying new things. I am also a big minecraft fan.
Do you have any advice for upcoming producers and DJ’s?
Put in the hours. It’s the simplest thing, but it is essential to making quality tracks. When you’re not working on a track, then learn more. Read tutorials, listen to every genre (not just edm), read books, do whatever you can to expand your musical horizons and you will be just fine.
Finally is there anything you want to tell your fans? Any shout-outs, the floor is yours.
I would just like to thank my fans so much for the support and love. It really means a lot to me.
Thanks again so much for taking the time and chatting with us. Every one that works on D.O.A, viewers and fans, I know greatly appreciate it. Keep up the bass and we all can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in the coming months. Be sure to go and show Tezzeract some love and check out all his tracks.
